Alex is a specialist inquest and personal injury barristerHaving been called in 1996, Alex is highly experienced: he receives instructions from established solicitors’ firms across the country, and has a wide client base.In addition to these instructions, in 2015 Alex was appointed by the Attorney-General to represent the Government in civil matters, as Counsel to the Crown (“A” Panel), and he frequently represents Government Departments at Inquest and in Multi Track claims. “A” Panel members deal with the most complex Government cases, at all levels of courts and tribunals, and often appear against KCs.

Alex has extensive inquest experience, including complex Article 2/jury inquests, and he sits as an Assistant Coroner in Cheshire and in Manchester West.
Alex frequently represents interested persons (including families, Government departments, employers, healthcare providers and police forces) at Inquests to investigate self-inflicted/unnatural deaths. Examples include:
- Inquest touching upon the death of “A”, a child who died from sepsis due to a Strep A infection during the 2022 outbreak
- Inquest touching upon the death of “B”, who died by suicide whilst on unescorted leave from hospital where she was receiving psychiatric treatment as a voluntary patient
- The "East London Inquests" into the deaths of four men who were murdered by the convicted serial-killer Stephen Port
- Inquest touching upon the death of “C”, who died by suicide whilst serving a custodial sentence for a high-profile murder
- Inquest touching upon the death of "D", who died by suicide in hospital after he developed delirium following major surgery
- Inquest touching upon the death of "E", a patient detained at a rehabilitation unit owing to a severe brain injury, who died following an epileptic seizure
- Inquest touching upon the death of “F”, who died from malignant mesothelioma after coming into contact with asbestos whilst working as a headteacher at a school
Personal Injury
Alex has a strong personal injury practice, and he undertakes all areas of employer's liability, public liability, and road traffic work. He is frequently instructed to provide advisory, drafting and advocacy services in claims exceeding £1 million in value, and is equally a skilled negotiator.
Recent personal injury cases of note include substantial employers’ liability claims arising out of:
- Serious physical injury
- Multiple injuries
- Chronic pain
- Occupational stress, bullying and harassment
- Noise-induced hearing loss/tinnitus
- PTSD
Alex has particular expertise in defending suspected fraudulent, or exaggerated, personal injury claims and, for many years, he has received instructions from counter-fraud solicitors’ firms nationwide.
