Andrew is a highly regarded personal injury and clinical negligence specialist.
A barrister with over twenty years’ experience, he is instructed in complex, high value claims, including fatal accidents and is renowned for meticulous preparation and exceptional trial advocacy.
He acts exclusively for Defendants and routinely deals with claims valued in excess of £1 million, both at trial and at joint settlement meetings.
Andrew has gained a formidable reputation in employers’ liability and public liability work, with a specialist interest in actions arising on the public highway. He has extensive experience in catastrophic injury claims arising from cycling accidents and successfully acted for the highway authority in Walsh v The Council of the Borough of Kirklees [2019] EWHC 492, both at trial and on appeal. Within Chambers, Andrew is Head of the Local Government Team.
Andrew has developed a strong reputation defending clinical negligence claims and regularly acts on behalf a number of NHS Trusts, both throughout the North West and nationally, with a particular interest in claims involving failed, or delayed diagnoses of cancer and cardiac conditions.
Andrew appreciates the role of counsel as part of a wider team and is always happy to discuss cases at short notice and provide training in his specialist areas.
Andrew is a member of the Northern Circuit Executive Committee and, as Secretary of the Northern Circuit, sits on the General Council of the Bar.
Andrew is married with two teenage daughters and spends downtime in the countryside, led by a Border Terrier.
